Visit the Tree Fam

The Sheffield Tree Project came out of a 1997 effort by a dedicated core of residents who wanted to bring back the American Elm to the town of Sheffield.  They bought 35 'Liberty' Elms, heeled them in and planted them around town in May of 1997.

Five years later, the Sheffield Tree Project was formally brought together and applied for a $5k "Re-Leaf" grant from the DCR.  Now 28 years later, nearly 193+ trees have been planted among Sheffield. You can find these trees in the Town Park, at the Bushnell Sage Library, on the Green, and on the school campuses of Undermountain and Mount Everett.

Safety First

When visiting the trees, make sure you park in an appropriate location and be seen.  Wear bright clothing and please don't assume vehicular traffic sees you.

School Visits

If visiting during the school year, please consider visiting after school hours.  Otherwise the trees love to be visited during school holidays and vacations.

Family Visits

Visiting a memorial tree?  We ask that you share love to the tree while doing so with the memory of someone.  Please resist hanging items on or from the tree, and please do not plant flowers within the tree's roots.

Notice the tree is in need of care or pruning? Please drop us a email and let us know what tree you were visiting and what you noticed.

Schedule a Tour

Would like to visit a specific tree?  Request a escorted visit; we're all volunteers, so please exhibit patience to coordinate.
